  • Naba Kumar Sircar alias Swamy Aseemanand was the mastermind behind the bomb blasts in Mecca MasjidAjmer and Malegaon.
  • The other accused include Sunil Joshi who was killed by unidentified persons in 2008, while Rachmachander Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange are yet to traced and arrested by the CBI.
  • The charge sheet described Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma as facilitators who helped their associates in procuring mobile phones and SIM cards, among other things.
  • According to sources, of the 205 witnesses the CBI has listed only few are fromAndhra Pradesh. Among them are many RSS functionaries.

The Times of India is reporting on the CBI investigation.

HYDERABAD: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said on Monday that Naba Kumar Sircar alias Swamy Aseemanand was the mastermind behind the bomb blasts in Mecca Masjid, Ajmer and Malegaon who asked his followers to give “bomb ka jawab bomb se” (respond bomb with bomb) against the Muslims and their places of worship in the country.

In the charge sheet spread over about 80 pages that was filed by the CBI at a special court in Hyderabad, the agency said that Aseemanand held a meeting within 10 days after the bomb explosion at Sankatmochan temple in Varanasi in March 2006 with his supporters. “At the Varanasi meet he asked his followers to return the attack of Muslim fidayeen on Hindu temples by bombing the places considered sacred by the Muslims, an official of the CBI who wished to remain anonymous told the TOI.

  • The Malegaon blast probe threw up 37 audiotapes in which ultra-Hindu groups plot terror attacks. These tapes expose a shocking nexus between Military Intelligence men and the outfits. Two years later, why is this still unexplored, asks RANA AYYUB of Tehelka.
  • First, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh claimed that Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare — who had been investigating the Malegaon blast — had called him hours before he died on the fateful night of 26/11, saying he was being threatened by those opposed to his probes. Singh was speaking at the launch of a book by Aziz Burney, controversially titled 26/11 — A RSS Controversy?
  • TEHELKA has found that, in the two years since the Malegaon blast, investigators have left many leads unexplored. Most alarmingly, they have failed to pin down eight Indian Army officers allegedly involved with the terror network. Why haven’t they been questioned by the army or sufficiently tracked? How far has the network penetrated sections of the army?

The TOI report further states that he chose the Muslim iconic places in the country because he believed that the Muslims in India had been helping out the Pakistani terrorists in targeting the Hindu temples, the official said.

The meeting, according to CBI, was attended by almost all the accused in the bombing of Mecca Masjid, Hazrath Khaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in Ajmer, Rajasthan, and a mosque in Malegaon, Maharashtra.

Besides Aseemanand, who is in the CBI custody, Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma, who are lodged in district jail in Ajmer, have also been made accused in the chargesheet. The other accused include Sunil Joshi who was killed by unidentified persons in 2008, while Rachmachander Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange are yet to traced and arrested by the CBI.

According to the TOI the chargesheet described Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma as facilitators who helped their associates in procuring mobilephones and SIM cards, among other things.

According to sources, of the 205 witnesses the CBI has listed only few are fromAndhra Pradesh. Among them are many RSS functionaries. Fearing for the lives of the witnesses, the CBI has pleaded with the 14th additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Nampally, to not reveal their identity. TOI
